Selling handmade soap is so much easier if the products aren't just like everybody
trying to sell soap. Let's face it, natural soap is everywhere. Make something truly
superior and with looks and feel to match and you're on your way. On your way to
more sales and profits that is. Here's how to get going.
1. Looks Sell.
Handcrafted soap sells partly for the look. See, it's a crafted object that can
be a thing of beauty. If it looks unique, it is unique. Think about tricky marbled
colors. Think about bevelled edges and even unique handcrafted packaging. That's
the ticket... a look that's just yours and better than the next soap maker has.
Here's the other big seller...
2. Smell sells too.
How do you know what scents sell??? Good question. Funny thing is... everybody doesn't
like the same thing. But, most sniffers like certain smells. See, many people like
the more subtle smells. However, some peoples sense of smell is so weak, they can
only smell really strong odors. Offer selections that are unique blends and many
people will return just for the special smells.
3. How about a story?
The way you design and produce products probably is different from anybody else.
Don't fail to tell your story. Tell it with words and pictures too. A picture is
worth a thousand words, so make sure you capture your processes and your work place
in picture form.
4. Unique personal twists.
What about personal packaging for parties like weddings or birthdays? Develop the
ability to produce unique packages and you can set your produce apart and do what
no one else can. Think what you would have if you could stamp soap with unique designs
so every small batch looked different. What if every bar was different? Think you
could do it? Why not?
5. Make it wilder.
Wilder how??? How about wild colors? Forget white soap. Even tan soap is bland.
Maybe unique molds too for unique shapes? How about something outrageous like organic
ingredients at the same price as everybody else sells their bland brands? Could
it be done? Betcha it could...
Set your soap apart and you'll be selling handmade soap in big volumes and building
loyalty to you and your craft. Unique soap is the best way to compete with all the
bland soap that's on the market. Build soap that's the best in feel and the nicest
to use and also has unique features. It's not that hard to do if you know a few
tricks.
